   Detroit Mumford escaped the Greg Kelser Gymnasium with a hard-fought 56-50 boys basketball victory over Detroit Public School League West Division rival Detroit Henry Ford on Friday, Jan. 10.

   Mumford improved to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. Henry Ford fell to 3-5/1-2.

   The game was tied 11-11 after one quarter and Mumford led 25-22 at halftime. Mumford expanded the lead to 41-32 after three quarters.

  Eight players scored for Mumford in a balanced attack. Marcus Davis led the Mustangs with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Alan Gee scored 14 and added eights assists and seven rebounds. Demonte Worfolk had seven points. Lee Almore and James Knight both added six points.

    Wryan Williams scored 28 points to lead Henry Ford.

   Mumford hosts Detroit West Side Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Detroit Martin Luther King Jr. (7-2/4-0) 73, Detroit Central (1-5/0-2) 33: Omar Zeigler Jr. scored 19 and Chauncey Willis Jr. 18 for the Crusaders.
