   Detroit Renaissance downed Detroit Public School League rival Detroit Henry Ford 54-45 in its boys basketball season opener at Renaissance on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

   Renaissance led 25-12 at halftime and extended the lead to 39-20 after three quarters. Henry Ford was able to rally in the fourth quarter and closed the game to 43-35 with four minutes left. But Renaissance was able to hold off the surge to close out the game.

   Junior Juwan Maxey scored 22 to lead Renaissance (1-0). Junior Charles George scored eight points. Freshman Donnie Watts III, sophomore Jayson Gamblin, and freshman Chandler Allen each scored five points for the Phoenix.

 

 

Other PSL boys basketball games from Tuesday

Detroit Cass Technical 63, Detroit Western International 36: Jamil Gardner scored 17 with four steals and Mekhai Walker had 16 points and five rebounds for Cass Tech (1-0). Western is 0-1.

Detroit Douglass 59, Detroit East English Village 50: Pierre Brooks II had 32 points and 10 rebounds, Javantae Randle scored 12 and Alexander Wiltz 10 for Douglass (1-0) . Tyrese Jones scored  24 and Robert Robinson had 13 points and 10 rebounds for East English (0-1).

Detroit Mumford 61, Detroit Communication & Media Arts 40: Julius Anderson scored 20, Andre Hope had 17 and Kamaji Darden scored 14 points for Mumford (1-0). Jeremiah Douglas scored 11 points for CMA (0-1).
