   Division 2 state-championship contender Detroit Edison Public School Academy dominated Detroit Cornerstone Health & Technology 99-54 to open its season on Friday, Feb. 12, at Edison.

   Ralph Bland II led Edison with 23 points, including 17 in the first half.

 David Hughes scored 18 points and had nine rebounds and six steals and Bryce Eaton totaled 17 points in a game where 11 Pioneers scored. Ralph Johnson and Kyle Millender both

 

 

 

 added nine points and Calvin Marshall scored seven in the victory.

   Edison (1-0) hosts Catholic High School League power Detroit Catholic Central on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

   Edison was ranked No. 8 in Division 3 at the end of the 2019-20 regular season and advanced to the Michigan High School Athletic Association District 90 championship game against Detroit Cristo Rey on March 13 before the season was cancelled due to the pandemic.

   The Pioneers won the MHSSA Class C championship in 2018.
