   Division 3 No. 9 Detroit Edison Public School Academy Early College of Excellence powered past Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett 81-29 in its Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3, District 90 opener on Monday, March 9, at Edison.

   Vincent Cooley had 14 points to lead the Pioneers in a balanced attack and Ralph Bland II and Thaddeus Powell both scored 13 points in the win.

 

  Edison reached the MHSAA semifinals last season.

   Detroit Cristo Rey beat Detroit Central 53-49 in the other district quarterfinal. District host Edison (17-4) will face Detroit Pershing (11-7) in the district semifinal on Wednesday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m. Cristo Rey (16-5) will take on Hope of Detroit Academy (6-8) in the other semifinal at 7 p.m.  The district final is Friday, March 13, at 5:30 p.m.
